

DirectX was a set of Microsoft APIs introduced in the mid 90s that let Windows programs, especially games access graphics, sound, and input hardware directly instead of going through slow system layers. It revolutionized gaming by dramatically improving performance and making Windows a viable platform for high end 3D games, helping it compete with consoles and DOS; ultimately kickstarting the creation of Microsoft’s infamous Dirext-XBOX
